Michael Murphrey, Texas A&M Forest Service, Lufkin, TX, Katie Swanson, Mission-Aransas NERR/University of Texas Marine Science Institute, Port Aransas, TX, and Hans Landel, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin, TX.
Abstract Text: The Texas Gulf Region Cooperative Weed Management Area in Port Aransas,Texas, was established in 2014 to coordinate efforts to manage the Brazilian Peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolius) invading the area's coastal prairie. I will describe the CWMA, and the outreach and control activities we have implemented on Mustang Island and in the Port Aransas community. A majority of the outreach efforts and education has involved activities predominately directed towards the citizens of Port Aransas. Numerous local, state, and federal agencies and NGO's are involved in the CWMA and the outreach effort.
