Abstract Title: THE EFFECT OF FIRE ON INVASIVE GRASSES AND PLANT COMMUNITIES IN CENTRAL AND NORTH TEXAS AND SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA. Kyle Simpson*, Whitney Behr, Carolyn Whiting, and Norma Fowler. The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX.
Abstract Text: Ten poor-quality grassland/savanna sites located in the Cross Timbers ecoregion of Texas and southern Oklahoma were burned in early 2018. Presence or absence of all herbaceous plant species was surveyed in fall 2017 and in summer 2018. Bothriochloa ischaemum was the most common invasive grass across the sites, and Sorghum halepense was fairly common at many sites. We examined how the abundances of these invasive grasses and common native species changed in response to fire.
